In these down economic times, I often wonder about pets. How are the owners keeping up in feeding them, taking care of them, taking advantage of services around the Portland metro area for help if the owners can’t afford treatment?
I guess the answer to my question is partially found in this article posted in the Oregonian. Dashayla Johnson left her 23 pound Husky-Pit Bull mix dog to die after she stopped feeding it claiming that she could no longer afford to, nor could she afford to take the dog to the vet.
But yet, she claims to have paid a maid to clean her apartment.
Bitch. (I should also point out that she’s 23 years old. Who the fuck has a maid clean their apartment at 23 years of age!? Did your mother not teach you anything?)
Dashayla said that the dog was sick so she let it die, covered it with a sheet and let it sit there for 6 days. Vets that performed the necropsy said the dog got down to 23 pounds. Again, this is a Husky-Pit Bull mix, which usually weighs anywhere from 50-80+ pounds.
Bitch.
She was finally sentenced today for letting her dog die. She gets a grand total of ….. drum roll please ….. 5 days in jail, 80 hours of community service (hopefully in an animal shelter of some kind), she must pay for the necropsy ($80.00) and can’t own a pet for 5 years. Oh yeah, and she gets to be on probation for two years too.
Is this a fair punishment?
Oh, but wait! There’s more! The judge also ordered her to:
“compile a list of free or low-cost veterinary services and submit them to the judge, who will in turn pass the list along to animal shelters so they can distribute them to the public.”
Good for you Judge. Extra Credit Bonus time – that’s always my favorite!
I think the fines should have been a lot more and the jail time should have been for at least 4-6 months. Oh yeah, and she shouldn’t be given much to eat during that time either – let’s see how that makes YOU feel, Dashayla.
Bitch.

Wow… people are fucking stupid.
In a time of seemingly ever-increasing ignorance and selfishness, It is easy to appreciate the judgement in this sad case. Who was feeding the negligent pet-owner while SHE grew up? Was getting fed an issue then? Makes me wonder where she learned it was okay NOT to care for dependents. In any case, this story makes me sad.

I FUCKIN’ HATE PEOPLE SOMETIMES! I just took in a dog (number two for me) that was locked in a garage for nearly two weeks. The landlord to the house found the dog when the renters never showed to pay the rent or announce that they were leaving. He and his brother had no food or water. Tucker, as I have him, was a 30 lb Alaskan Husky. He is now happily at weight, and is sleeping next to his new buddy, Jedi, that I have had since she was 8 weeks and dumped in the woods. Jedi is almost 11.
Martin,
Thanks Martin, I appreciate hearing that! After reading your comment I have some hope in the human race and I’m really happy to know that you have happy healthy dogs! People suck sometimes but animals should never have to suffer because they do.
It’s people like that that make me want to go to the bell tower and start shooting. And that is a really, really lax sentence. Outrage all around! I don’t know how people can do that to other living things. I would go without A LOT before I’d say I couldn’t “afford” to feed my dogs. Guess what, Dashayla, who fucking cares? You’re an adult. You have a dog. Feed it!!! WTF, people.
Also, sidenote: you probably found it randomly on the internets, but that photo is of Putney the pit bull, a rad dog with rad owners in NYC. (http://www.flickr.com/photos/fastboy/298221450/in/set-72157594421354412/)
