It was probably just a matter of time before Oregon’s ingenuity and will to save the environment rubbed off on non-commuter gas-guzzling vehicles, after all, only so many of the cars and trucks on the road are being used to get to and from work, the shopping mall, and the kids’ soccer games, right?
So, I couldn’t help but chuckle a bit when I saw a post on Dave Knows: Portland this morning about Sunset Hills Cemetery in Eugene – where they now feature a bicycle-hearse – for when you really want to keep your carbon footprint to a minimum, even after you’re not alive to really give a crap anymore.

Although I’ve yet to see anything like this in Portland, I’m sure I’ve either just missed it or it’s only a matter of time. Personally, I think it’s pretty damn cool. My ultimate dream now is to ride along in this thing right down the middle of the road and hold up the regular flow of traffic the entire way. I’m wondering if I can’t put something in my will that demands that the cyclist also offer sidewalk delivery of Voodoo Doughnuts on our way to the burial, that way we’re doubling the usefulness of my final ride.
Also, be sure to visit the all new Dave Knows: Portland blog – he’s gone and got himself a pretty spiffy update, very cool stuff. He also managed to make his way out to Bob’s Red Mill in Milwaukie to check out the Golden Spurtle, the award given to the best porridge maker in the world, that we talked about on the show awhile back. I have Dave envy today.
