We’re calling it. As of 4pm this afternoon the 2009 Portland Sucks Dead Pool Contest is officially (finally) over. Yesterday several news sources quoted various persons stating the Joe’s is headed for liquidation which means that one of our lucky readers/listeners just won his or herself $500.00 cash. We are attempting to contact the winner as of this writing and we hope to announce their name and hand them their prize within the next 48 hours, we’ll keep you posted.
The 2009 Portland Sucks Dead Pool Contest has been running for exactly 2 months, having started officially on February 9th. The contest gave listeners and readers of Portland Sucks the opportunity to guess the next major retailer or big box store to go bankrupt and head into liquidation (i.e. have a massive, all-encompassing EVERYTHING MUST GO sale). The first entry for the correctly guessed dead retail store was originally to win a $250.00 gift card to Best Buy but after threats of legal action we subsequently changed the prize to $500.00 cash with one caveat – the winner must sign a form stating that they will not spend ANY of their prize money at Best Buy.
Joe’s has long been a frontrunner since the call for entries closed several weeks ago, along with Ritz Camera and, more recently, Borders Books & Music.

Don’t feel too bad buddy. I had Kitchen Kaboodle and they should have gone out of business a long time ago but they went the route of only opening one day a week instead. Shouldn’t that be considered cheating?
