A Man, His Helmet, His Website, and His Mission To Oust Sam Adams…

by RobertWagner on February 10, 2009

UPDATED: I’m hoping to speak with Jasun Wurster later this week as he’s been gracious enough to offer to answer my questions about his cause and his site. Pretty darn nice of him really, we’ll see how that goes.

If the sex scandal involving the private life and times of Portland Mayor Sam Adams had you drowning in boredom already, don’t bother trying to come up for air just yet. The Portland Tribune (that kid that’s always last on his block to get anything cool) features this juicy morsel of trash today regarding a “grassroots volunteer effort” to recall the mayor involving Amanda Fritz, the default Joomla web CMS template, and a guy with a bicycle helmet that admits his spelling skills leave a lot to be desired.

Jasun Wurster (apparently his parents couldn’t spell either), self-proclaimed “good programmer” and poor speller wants Mayor Sam Adams out of office. Big surprise, so does half of Portland. Mr. Wurster, in some quasi-sick puppy dog sort of way, has fixated on City Council Member Amanda Fritz and insists that because he voted for her that she should do what he wants. Watch the video interview here and ask yourself this question: Does this man have a bicycle or does he need that helmet because he falls and hurts his head frequently?

Now, having said that, I have two issues here:

1) Jasun, if you’re such a darn good programmer could you have at least made an effort to change the default Joomla template? I understand that you’re a volunteer and I respect the fuck out of you for giving your time to a cause that you believe in, but here you are patting yourself on the back about your mad web skills and all you gave to the cause was an unsightly patriotic banner – the rest is pure Joomla. I know a lot of people don’t know what that means but you and I do, don’t we Jasun?

2) In reading the forum/blog areas of the recallsamadams.com website, it would seem that anyone speaking in favor of the mayor is instantly censored. I get it, you guys don’t like the mayor and that’s cool with me, but do you realize how fucking out of touch you all seem when you allow comments like this one:

“Sam’s gayness is a distraction from his duties and a controversy by itself. Now his gayness and the perversions associated to that lifestyle has become a problem with Sam’s ability to perform his duties.”

That was posted on your website by “BigHeadToad” and I don’t see you censoring him. Pardon me Jasun but FUCK YOU AND YOUR BIKE HELMET WEARING HILLBILLY FUCKTARD ASS. I’m not gay but that’s just about the sickest fucking comment I’ve read yet from you and your Jesus Lovin’ / Cock Squeezin’ / Monster Truck Rally / Halo Playing geek squad.

I respect the shit out of people wanting to recall Sam, that’s your business… If you want to censor Sam-lovers on your website, that’s great too – but at least have the common courtesy to ban and/or censor hate-mongering assholes too. This isn’t a homosexual issue, it never has been.

it is a gay issue because sam the molester is gay and if he was spent more time doing his job instead of being perverted than this boy would not have been molested for this monster!

Jasun Wurster is a nice quiet guy. If he’s speaking up about something it’s because he believes in it. It’s not really his nature. I don’t know him that well but I know him well enough to know that. Obviously he feels strongly about this or he wouldn’t have dedicated the time and money that he has to it. Hear him out and don’t let the trolls on that web site make your decision for you. That’s unfair to Jasun.

There are a few factual errors in your story.

Please feel free to send en email to press@recallsamadams.com to set and set up an interview.

Wow. I got a big kick out of reading this post only because I know Jasun and the person you are describing could not be further from the real man. What do they call that when someone can’t defend their position, so they attack the person instead? Anyway, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, as ill formed as it may be by the media you have obtained it from, but the image you have conjured with this piece is like looking at a caricature of Michael Moore when the art instructor asked you to paint Al Gore.

I will say it again, “there they go”.

sld : calm down kid, no one is fighting.

Steve Audette : The answer to your question is… they call the type of behavior you describe “being an idiot”. I’ve never claimed to be anything else.

Factual errors? I read what I read and formulated my opinion accordingly. Garnering a fan base from the lowest common denominator of scum, whether they’re homophobes (like in this case), racists, sexists, whatever – it simply undermines whatever important work you’d like to achieve. I completely understand everyones anger with Sam Adams, I really do. If I held ill-advised sex (and lies about it) as a high priority in my life then I’d probably be up in arms too. The problem is, I just don’t. I want a mayor that performs the duties of his/her office, plain and simple. Call me numb, call me dumb – I accept that politicians are just like the rest of us and I for one have: (a) lied to get a job, (b) had sex and lied about it later, (c) used a position of power to get what I want. Am I morally bankrupt? Maybe in someone’s mind somewhere, sure.

What I don’t do though is ignore someone’s opinion based on their stance on an issue while gathering a group of so-called friends that live in a world of blatant intolerance.

My “story” (that makes it sound like I’m news media and I’m not) consists only of the frustration that someone with a strong viewpoint would undermine his own message by allowing gay-hating twits to support him. Very simple. Kudos to Mr. Wurster for his ideals and sticking to his beliefs, whether they’re the same as mine or not. Having said that, screw him for allowing all the gay bashing assholes on his website to speak when those that oppose his viewpoint cannot.

I totally understand,

How about you give me a call at 503-799-7919 and we can talk. I am more than happy to answer any questions you have about me and why I am volunteering for this cause.

With much respect,

I’m a twice divorced heterosexual man and even I find that quote offensive. I wish Sam would step down but not because he is gay or because gays are perverts. He is a liar and we can’t trust him, that’s the issue here people!

You know what — Some of you rednecks out there give the rest of us rednecks a bad name, by trying to make this issue into something it isn’t — “THOSE DIRTY HOMOSEXUALS”. Give us all a break, will ya? Lest someone take the wrong tack on this note, let me point out. I too am 100% behind putting this man back on the street where he belongs. But NOT because he’s gay. I don’t know about anyone else in this city, but I HATE BEING LIED TO AND PLAYED FOR A FOOL. I am so disappointed that Congress didn’t have the courage to kick Clinton’s ass out and that we let the “original pervert” Neil Goldschmidt get away with it (child molesting) on a technicality (time…). The man is unfit for office and it doesn’t matter who or what he sleeps with. THIS IS THE ONLY ISSUE HERE. Maybe the gay community wants to make this into a war; straights vs gays. But don’t buy into that crock. I read the comment from one about “…well if he’d had sex with an 18 yr. old girl, this wouldn’t be an issue…). You know what — GROW UP, STUPID!!! What is the difference between what Adams did to us and a police officer lying about his qualifications, just to get the job. Or a parks employee having sex with someone in his office. Don’t give me this double standard crap, people. We have a right and duty to hold these people accountable. They work for US !!! Not the other way around. WE put them into the office on the merit of their honesty, qualifications and integrity. Does anyone notice that Adams didn’t “fess up” til he got caught dirty? In my minds eye, that negates the sincerity of his “apology”. “I’ll just apologize and these rubes will just smile and shine it on. And if they don’t, then obviously it’s because they’re homophobes.” That is so pathetic.
We need to take control back, Portland. If we’re too much afraid to do that, then God help us, we’re as much the problem as these people are. Be part of the solution! We’ve been used and lied to and duped. If that doesn’t “grate your cheese”, then you’re a coward, too afraid to stand up and say WHOA.
And just for the record, if Adams sits at the same table with other commissioners who are too afraid to stand up and say this is right or wrong, then those Commissioners should be put on the block with him. I will do whatever I can to remove this person. He HAS no honor, dignity or integrity. If he doesn’t get the hint, we need to SHOW him the door, with a size 12 boot. If we don’t, then Sam Adams is laughing at us all the way to the Mayor’s office. And it’s OUR fault. I an a city employee and would’ve lost MY job, if I’d done what this man did; publically and officially.

Since Jasun is pretending that his beef is about the lie, rather than homophobia, I have a question…

Jasun, if someone asked a mayoral candidate his favorite ice cream, and he lied and said “chocolate,” when in fact it was strawberry, would you be investing all of this time and effort into this?

If your answer is no, the it is not the lie you’re reacting to.

Of course, no rationale person would think to recall a mayor for saying that his favorite ice cream was chocolate, when in fact it was strawberry.

Why? Because the lie is immaterial and completely irrelevant.

Doesn’t the fact that you’re pursuing this prove that you actually _do_ have a beef with the subject matter? Not just the red herring “lie?”

Jasun has been flashing his dick to little kids on the street for years in the name of free speech and free expression and bicycle faggot pride.

Up yours Jasun.
