The Oregonian is reporting that protestors are once again gathering outside city hall to call for Mayor Sam Adams resignation. Apparently unaware that jobs are scarce in this city and a political shake-up would likely not do them a whole lot of good, they’re back out there rallying once again in light of yesterdays’ resignation of Wade Nkrumah, Mayor Adams’ (now former) director of communications.
Whatever your stance on this whole thing, you have to admit that Oregonian photographer Noelle Crombie has some serious news photography skills. The crowd itself is actually rather meager in size but her shot makes it look like its substantially larger than it really is. Good stuff, especially when you’re working for a fact-distorting newspaper.
Why the resignation of Mr. Nkrumah is prompting all of this is anyone’s guess. I’ve been by city hall every day since the pro-Sam rallies and haven’t seen a single protestor. I figure it has something to do with the notion that Sam still has more to hide and Mr. Nkrumah just doesn’t have the stomach for it anymore. Whatever the case, it looks like the vilifying is back underway and its business as usual around here. Oh joy.
Rumor has it that the crowd will rapidly disperse once this months unemployment and social security checks start showing up in the mail. Meanwhile, ace PDXSUCKS.COM reporter Sabrina Miller was sent down to the gathering in an effort to find out just how many people in the crowd are actually from Portland. Her unscientific poll shows “about half”. So, to that half I say “fuck off and go back home, you have your own mayor – leave ours alone”.
UPDATE: We stopped back by city hall at noon and didn’t see a single protestor left, just a smattering of rather disappointed looking television news crews. Looks like this wasn’t the story everyone had hoped for.
