Hot Pot City is a unique place to eat lunch or dinner, kind of like Chang’s Mongolian Grill meets The Melting Pot, but not as commercialized. Lots of choices and picking meats and veggies, but not perfect for the fussy eater.
I used to get take out from there all of the time for lunch and the occassional dinner, beef & broccoli, cashew chicken, things that didn’t take up too much time or cost too much (after picking your entrees, getting the waiters attention to set up your place settings and the hardware the comes with it, it can be a little time consuming). Lunch would cost around $5.50…not too shabby.
The last time I had gotten food to go was around the beginning of August. The quality of meat started to deteriorate, the time it took to get a to go order took longer, and the food kept getting saltier. So imagine my surprise when I went in one snowy day last week to get some take out only to find out they don’t do take out anymore. Really? Apparently they stopped in August. I was so bummed out as for some reason I was craving the rice more than anything. I’m always of the opinion that you give the places you really like a few tries to ‘come back around’ to what they had before.
Needless to say, I was stunned learning that they no longer offered carry out. I understand the place is usually buzzing with people, but in these ‘harsh economic times’ one would think that restaurants would do what they could to keep existing customers while gaining the attention of new ones. When you don’t offer food to go, it limits what your potential income could be…duh.
Well, your loss Hot Pot City and damn you for denying me your beef broccoli. I will not be recommending this to anyone again…if only you could put the food in a container, I could take it with me…sigh.
